Hi all,

In the last week or so we lost a fellow rider here in SA to the black dog.

He was a wealthy businessman and always had a great time with many adventures on the bike. We were all very shocked and saddened. I truely hope that anyone reading this who is having any thoughts along these lines knows that even an acquaintance out on a ride would listen if there was just some way that the person could just speak up. Show a sign of struggle and somehow branch out to someone. Somewhere.

Easier said than done I guess.

Sorry to hear Heids!

Thanks for sharing!!

We have had a couple of ongoing health problems in my family over the past year and a half and have been seeing a gut specialist to help us (big thanks to @Urustu for putting us onto him). It is amazing that the science community is still only scratching the surface as to the make up of our bodies and how seemingly innocuous bodily functions/processes can effect totally different parts of the body. Our health problems are different to the below link from the ABC show Catalyst, but when I watched this episode, I instantly thought of this thread and hope that it could be helpful to someone.

Hey guys. Just checking in to see how everyone is doing. Yes I know I’ve been off the radar for a while. And it’s almost 18mths since my last ride. Hoping to fix that soon. Just wanting to say that you are a good bunch of guys, it’s rare to find groups who look out for one another. Jimbob

Hello all,

Read many of your stories, me, well I was diagnosed with major clinical depression quite a while ago, anxiety is in there as well. It’s something I have to live with but medication has taken care of much of the chemical imbalances.

So while I’m much better physiologically, psychological support from my fabulous wife, our small awesome fluffy white hounds, friends and so on has been critical in staying healthy. I’m fortunate to be able to have regular check ins with a psychologist.

If you haven’t sought out professional help I can personally recommend seeing your GP and having a Mental Health Plan set up. Under one of these you can get 10 sessions with a psyche with a lot of the cost being picked up by the government.

To put my story into context at my worst living life became more frightening than death. Enough of that though.

I returned to dirt bike riding at the start of this year after more than 30 years. I love it, it’s been a terrific way of keeping my head healthy.

I do most of my trail riding during the traditional working week, so far all of this has been at Toolangi, if any of you are available for midweek rides let me know and we can arrange something.

In closing, speak out about this, many suffer in silence alone. Show others that it can be safe to speak about this aweful condition, let people see you can live a productive, happy and fulfilling life.

Well done Gerald. It's such a rotten illness, just like me we have to keep positive and people should seek help if they don't have it! I have a great team for support.
