With all of this talk of bad backs and back injuries and stuff, i got to wondering what people do to keep on top of it, and what they have tried!
I understand that different things work for different situations and some things might work for some and not as good for others also...

I have posted a similar thread to this elsewhere a long time ago, and was very surprised at what a wide range of results came back, with people posting up heaps of different things.

At the moment i am have a mixture of Physio and Remedial massge, but reckon i have tried just about everything out there.......

Please post up, and tell us what has and has not worked for you over time

Cheers

Well I suffer migraines so I've tried alot of the above, but for general muscle & joint issues I'm now seeing an Osteo as they seem to be a mix between a Physio & a Chiro & I seem to benefit best with this type of treatment, but, for some of the serious neck & back problems (muscular) I've had over the years, I saw a Myotherapist which as I would best describe as the most painful version of a massage I've ever had (& I love my massages to get in & hurt to get benefit) he also combine it with accupuncture and that was real good. I've never had to tell a Remedial Massuse to stop because it hurt too much, but the Myo got me!

I will never go to anyone for a Remedial Massage ever again now.

The key is finding what works best for the individual as I know not alot of people cant handle the pain that comes with Myo, unfortunatley not the same thing works for everyone.

Specialist Physio. who only works on backs.

She had me back at work in 6 weeks after nearly 9 months seeing another money driven physio.

Almost had surgery... Almost

She taught me how to manage it myself and to look for the signs. Now I rarely have issues..

Oh yeah. I had a ruptured disk.

Chiro and Voltaren work for me, I actully dont see the chiro much any more as my back is alot more stable after years of chiro care, but then again I dont do anywhere near as much heavy lifting as i used to.

Swimming, stretching, and working out (my job is a workout in itself also) have kept my back in good shape.
I get a 4 weekly remedial massage just for fun and to mellow out a bit too.

I need a good back for work, and really wanna keep it that way. My back is one of my 'strengths' as some would say. lol
Believe it or not, I know what's good and bad for backs. For one thing, never lift heavy weights and swivel/twist your torso much. That's what has injured many carpenters/tradies.

Just a little note to Ant, cycling actually shortens your hammies and stuff, that's why it's especially important to regularly stretch your legs and lower back after cycling.

My wife had a sore neck for over 18 months, with miagraines.

She tried physio (x2) , chiro, osteo and getting me to rub her neck really hard which didn;t feel liek the right thing to be doing.

She had also had acupuncture and various massage.

She was also eating Voltaren like they were going out of fashion.

Then she turned up after seeing a bog standard bulkbilling doctor who got her x-rayed and suggested a neurosurgeon!

We freaked out! Not only were the neurosurgeons very expensive they were also very rude (over the phone)

I managed to convince her to see a sports DOCTOR at Olympic PArk medical centre here in Melbourne and they are fantastic.

Straight in for an MRI scan - diagnosis bulging disk. Probabley from a result of bad posture in front of the computer.

REALLY strong course of antiinflammetry drugs and she is now 100% cured.

I only wonder now just how much damage those other quacks did to her neck where they obviously had no idea what they were doing.

She even saw a physio down at Olympic Park medical centre and he was one of the good ones too: He recommended she not follow up with any further physio for her condition. ie he was professional enough to be not money driven at all.

I go to a chiro monthly for a neck and back tune up, deep tissue massage when I feel my muscles getting tense in my shoulders and neck. I do a lot of heavy lifting for work and touch wood these techniques work for me..

Myotherapy and acupuncture for knotted back and neck, bulging discs in neck and worn disc in back. Takes a while but works a treat.
Cheers,
Paul.

Applying some of my wife secret formula magnesium lotions with lawang oil for instant pain relief.
see www.way2goliving.com.

magnesium has 350 uses in the body great for pain releif and also for taking away muscle spasms and tension. hence why Epsom salt work but they have only 4% magnesium content. We buy the flakes in bulk with over 30% magnesium and sit in that bath youll never wake up- lol

Osteo for me when exercise and stretching isn't enough for my lower back. 2 bulging disc's caused by work.

Had acupuncture as a last ditch attempt to heal a tear from my bicep into my elbow after 3 months of pain, worked about 95%, and better than going to the surgeon.
I'm not a total idiot, there are a few parts missing.

Actually, someone at work was telling me how good their acupuncture was. I'll try and remember who it was and let you know.
